Visit China
China has almost 4,000 years of continuous
history, making it one the worlds oldest civilizations. Today, it is also one
of the most diverse and extraordinary. From vibrant modern cities to remote
mountain villages, from the high life to the monastic life, China is full of
surprises. The landscape is as varied, mountains, valleys, plains, lakes,
caves, beautiful beaches and more with the flora and fauna that goes with it.
What ever your interests, architecture and urban culture or nature and rural
life China has it.
China is a huge country made up of a
complex topography which leads to wild weather conditions. The climate can be
dominated by extremes such as brutal cold, high heat, extensive droughts and
monsoons. In the winter, the northern winds coming in from the Himalayan
Mountains can lead to cold and dry conditions while the summers are moist and
warm thanks to breezes off the sea areas. Northern China can experience
extremely cold conditions during the winter with lows falling to -20 degrees
Celsius. However, the summers can be just as warm with temperatures climbing to
38 degrees Celsius. The central section of the country sees long, humid summers
with temperatures in winter well below freezing. In addition, every season but
summer tends to be wet in this region. The southern section sees typhoons
between July and September with high near triple digits. The northwest is the
hottest part of China with temperatures around 47 degrees Celsius, but winter
can be just as brutal.
Going around China is possible through
planes, trains, buses, subway, taxis, pedicabs, bicycles, motorbikes and cars.
Flying across China is a great way to save travel time but could be slightly
expensive. However, most airlines, international as well as regional ones,
offer discounts on tickets.
Train travel is the most common and popular
mode of transport within China, with several types of trains as well as classes
being available. Train schedules and availability can be checked online through
several company websites (www.seat61.com/China.htm, www.absolutechinatours.com,
www.chinahighlights.com, www.oklx.com), all of which can be easily accessed.
Alternatively, there are several long distance buses and city buses that can be
easily accessed for economical travel around China. Cars are also popular modes
of travel within the country, although more expensive than other modes of
transport.
Whilst traveling within any city in China,
using the subway is a great way of experiencing the city, especially major ones
like Beijing etc. Alternatively, you could use taxis, which are available in
abundance. The only problem would be the traffic jams, given the huge number of
cars and taxis in any Chinese city. Motorcycle taxis are a great alternative to
regular taxis, as they are faster and more convenient. Pedicabs or rickshaws
are also available in some cities to help travel around. Finally, you could
always hire bicycles and ride around cities.
