Overview
Doha, on Qatar’s east coast, is the country’s capital and largest city, with more than 80% of the population residing here. It is a modern urban center, which has witnessed a great deal of development in the past two decades. The Corniche is home to numerous modern skyscrapers and there is an interesting array of museums to visit across the city, including the National Museum, Islamic Arts Museum and the Weaponry Museum. There are also cultural attractions, amusement parks and a host of upmarket malls in Doha.
Climate
The city of Doha features an arid climate. Located in the Arabian Peninsula, the temperatures are very hot with a variable humidity level. From June through August, average afternoon highs soar to approximately 42 degrees. However, it is not uncommon to see summer temperatures climb above 50 degrees. In addition, there is little relief from rain during this time as June, July, August and September are virtually rain free. Winters in the city are mild and the coolest month is January with an average afternoon high of 21 degrees and a low of 12 degrees. Doha receives an average of 75 millimeters of rain per year. The most rainfall comes in February and March with both months receiving approximately 15 millimeters of precipitation.
